Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has said that if he comes to power, he will not only improve the Punjab police but also the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Addressing a public gathering in Mianwali on Saturday, he said he had reformed the police in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the crimes in the province had declined by about 70% as a result of this. If he got an opportunity, he would show that he could also improve the Punjab police. He said Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif had spent billions of rupees to change the uniform of Punjab police, but the personnel looked like postmen in the new outfit.

Khan said Shehbaz was befooling the nation. “One brother has been defeated and the other is about to follow,” he said about the Sharif brothers. Once in power, he would also fix NAB and FIA, he said.

“I do not know if Zardari ever paid any tax. The Sharif family waves while going to appear before NAB as if they have conquered Kashmir. Nawaz Sharif has taken abroad Rs300 billion that he stole. Small thieves are sent to prison in Pakistan and powerful thieves get protocol,” he said.

The PTI chief said he had been struggling for 21 years and had faced many disappointments and bad times. Many of his colleagues had disappointed him but the people of Mianwali had not, he said. He said that when he came to Mianwali to contest the elections in 2002, people mocked him and said he would get his surety confiscated. Had he not won that election, he would not be standing where he was now, he said. When he launched his struggle, no politician was ready to support him but the people of Mianwali supported him and now the PTI was the largest party in the country, he claimed.

Khan also recalled that Shehbaz used to say in the past that he would recover the nation’s wealth from Pakistan Peoples Party leader Asif Zardari and also that his name should be changed if he failed to end load-shedding.

He said all the progress claimed by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shehbaz existed only in advertisements, while the educational system in Punjab had also been destroyed. He said taxes were being collected from the poor, while the rich people were getting richer. “Once in power, I shall devise a tax system that will not burden the poor and tax will be collected from the rich.” He said that in the West, 90% of the taxes were collected from the rich, while in Pakistan it is the other way round.

The PTI leader also plans to address a rally in Mandi Bahauddin.
