Afghan deputy governor abducted in Peshawar
Muhammad Nabi Ahmadi taken away by unidentified gunmen from Dabgari area
PESHAWAR:
Unidentified gunmen abducted Muhammad Nabi Ahmadi, the deputy governor of Afghanistan’s Kunar province, in Dabgari area of Peshawar on Friday – a day after he arrived in the city for an appointment with a doctor, local police and an Afghan diplomat confirmed on Saturday.
Afghan Consul General in Peshawar Moeen Mrastyal said that Ahmadi had come to Peshawar on Thursday where he had an appointment with a doctor in Dabgari. “There, he was abducted by unidentified gunmen and we still haven’t heard anything about him,” he added.

“At first we thought that he was somewhere nearby when he didn’t respond to our calls. We then informed the Kabul government and also the Pakistani high-ups about him,” Mrastyal told The Express Tribune by the phone on Saturday. “We hope that he will be rescued soon,” he said.
Ahmadi’s abduction was confirmed by officers at the Shah Qabool police station. They said they were trying to locate the governor.
The incident brought back the memories of the abduction and rescue of former Afghan governor Sayed Fazlullah Wahidi last year. Wahidi was recovered in Mardan two weeks after he was abducted from Islamabad.
