ISLAMABAD:
Having a difference of opinion should not descend into a matter of life and death, as has become common now.

This was stated by speakers during a seminar on the promotion of Islamic norms and ethics for resolving differences and forging unity at the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Friday. The seminar was organised by the varsity’s Arabic and Islamic studies departments.

The participants of the seminar included research scholars and students of PhD from various parts of the country.

AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui said that educational institutions are supposed to motivate students to shun extremist tendencies.

“They [universities] should prepare them to respect the viewpoint of others, while adhering to their own belief,” he said, adding that diversity of views is the beauty of a society.
