BRT project

Letter October 28, 2017
It is of course true that the federal and provincial governments are facing financial problems

PESHAWAR: It is of course true that the federal and provincial governments are facing financial problems. However, putting a halt to the development work is not the solution. Increasing exports and trade should be the primary approach of the governments to deal with budget deficits. The opposition criticises poor economic performance of the incumbent government. For the common people, however, the most important thing are the prices of essential commodities and not government figures, whether real or fudged, about economic growth and development.

The JUI-F has, however, recently filed a petition with the court challenging the Bus Rapid Transit project. In spite of lack of feasibility, this project is intended to improve Peshawar’s transport efficiency. Since Metro bus project has been successful in Lahore largely due to congested traffic conditions, a similar project is likely to be a success in other provinces too.
