Dr Naushad Aijaz, a 45-year-old veterinarian, was killed in the Hali Road area when he was returning home after dropping his children to school. According to police, he was shot by assailants riding a motorcycle near his house as he stepped out of his car. He was rushed to Liaquat University Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
MQM-Pakistan's elected representatives and local leaders also reached the hospital. Dr Aijaz sustained three gunshot wounds to his chest and face. He is said to be a close aide of MQM-Pakistan Deputy Convener MNA Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. The police have yet to ascertain the cause of the killing and an FIR has not been lodged so far either.

Hali Road police SHO Zeeshan Lashari said that two persons riding a motorcycle were caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage. In the footage, a man wearing shalwar kameez riding on the pillion seat fired shots from a pistol at Dr Aijaz. The motorcycle rider, whose face, unlike the assailant, was uncovered, was wearing pants and a shirt.
The police arrested a suspect identified as Arshad in a raid in the Gujrati Para area. The police also raided the residence of Rashid alias Dancer but he was not at home. The police believe that personal enmity could be a reason for the killing.
MQM-Pakistan's leaders, including Amir Khan, visited the residence of the slain veterinarian who reportedly switched loyalties from MQM-London to MQM-Pakistan a few months ago.
