ECP decision on Ayesha Gulalai 'unconstitutional', says Imran Khan

PTI chief says he has developed a special swing delivery to bowl out Zardari

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan said on Tuesday that the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) decision to reject his reference against estranged party MNA Ayesha Gulalai was an unconstitutional move.

"We are looking into this matter. Ayesha Gulalai had announced herself that she was leaving the party and violated rules," the PTI chief told reporters in Karachi.

"We hope that the ECP will decide matters impartially and not just against the PTI," he added.

Earlier in the day, the ECP, rejecting Imran’s reference, ruled 3-2 in favour of Gulalai, deciding to not to de-seat the PTI MNA from the reserved seat in the National Assembly.



In a five-judge panel, members from Punjab and Balochistan voted against Gulalai while the ECP chief and Sindh representative voted in her favour.

Speaking on Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader and former Sindh minister Sharjeel Memon's arrest, Imran said it was a welcoming development.

"I have developed a special swing delivery to bowl out [PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali] Zardari," the cricketer-turned-politician said.

"I can clearly see Zardari's middle stump and soon it will be uprooted," he added.

Imran alleged that the "Zardari mafia" had plundered Sindh, even depriving sugarcane farmers of their right to live.

On the US pressure on Pakistan to step up its efforts against terrorism, Imran said the country had had enough of the Americans' "do more" mantra.

"One can't even imagine how much Pakistan has sacrificed in the US' war," he maintained.

"In the process of 'doing more', we have destroyed out tribal areas."
