ISLAMABAD: In the wake of a call from some religio-political groups to stage rallies and processions in the federal capital, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal has categorically stated that nobody would be allowed to disrupt the law and order situation in the capital, warning “elements found in any nefarious activity will be dealt sternly”.

“Internal solidarity is key to our success. Some anti-state elements are fuelling controversies to provoke conflicts within our state. We have to defeat such designs,” he said while chairing a high-level meeting to review security arrangements in the capital city on Monday.

The government had faced a political storm over a controversial amendment in the Khatm-i-Nabuwwat declaration for electoral candidates that it attributed to some ‘clerical error’.

Though the government was forced to reconsider its stance and restore the original text of the declaration, some religio-political groups have vowed to stage a demonstration on the issue in Islamabad next month.

In the meeting, the interior minister asserted that “Pakistan needs stability and harmony” in the wake of the war against terrorism.

“Some elements are trying to exploit the finality of the prophethood issue for political gains whereas there is no reality in the allegations. The sanctity of the Prophet (pbuh) status will be maintained at all cost,” the minister added.

The interior minister said security around Red Zone of the capital should be ensured at all costs and no political and religious party would be allowed to violate or sabotage rules and regulations enunciated for the capital by the high court.

The minister also added that every citizen was free to exercise democratic rights within the limits of law. “Those taking law unto their own hands will be dealt with sternly,” he further stated.

Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said street agitation and violence in the capital will damage the image of Pakistan in the world community.

He directed the law-enforcement agencies to beef up security of Red Zone and the Diplomatic Enclave in Islamabad in order to avoid any untoward incident in the capital.

He also said some elements wanted to disrupt peace in the country. The interior minister also noted that the politics of violence and agitation was against the teachings of Islam and notable section of Islamic scholars should come forward and play their due role by imparting true teachings and message of Islam.

He said: “It is the need of the hour to unite the whole nation and people should stay away from those political and religious groups whose agenda is to sow rift and dissension in the social fabric of the country.”
