LAHORE: Senior TV artist Javed Kodu has been admitted to General Hospital in Lahore after his health deteriorated recently. The popular stage actor is in a critical condition and has asked his fans to pray for his well being.

Kodu is known as the comedy genius of Pakistan. The dwarf actor has spent nearly 45 years in the Pakistani film industry and completed over 150 films to date, along with numerous stage dramas. The star’s impeccable comic timing and unique talent won him fans all over the world.

Unfortunately, his life took a turn for the worse when he suffered a brain hemorrhage about two years ago, leaving him bed-ridden ever since. As of now, the former star resides in a small rental in Lahore’s Mughal Pura vicinity, while his family struggles to make ends meet for him and themselves.

“There is no one in the industry that needs help more than me but I will never beg or campaigns for financial assistance like the other artists of my generation,” Kodu shared with The Express Tribune.

Rs60m approved for hospital block

“I am experiencing a very difficult time right now but at least it is passing. I do not own this small room where I am living and my three children do not work so there is no source of income for our family… you can imagine what our situation is like,” he continued. “I will never complain to anyone because after all, it’s the Pakistani people who gave me so much love and respect during my career. I have requested the government for help through a proper channel; maybe the officials will consider it. But I want silent support so that I can protect my self-respect.”

Health Minister Punjab Khawaja Salman Rafique visited the hospital to inquire about Kodu’s health and announced that the government will provide funds for his treatment.
