Braid-choppers: the new low

Letter October 23, 2017
Atrocities on the people of Indian-Occupied Kashmir have become a routine occurrence

RAWALPINDI: Atrocities on the people of Indian-Occupied Kashmir have become a routine occurrence. This is why perpetrators keep coming up with new ways to spread fear and chaos in the region without showing any remorse. The latest attack on the Kashmiris targeted at the women is the random braid-chopping of their hair by unknown assailants.

In IOK women and girls have long braided locks and unknown attackers have found it appropriate to harass them by chopping off their locks. According to the local police, more than 200 such incidents have been reported over the past six weeks, which means in an average four such cases occur on a single day and so far no one has been caught. But instead the Indian police have been cracking down on helpless civilians who have taken to the streets to protest against such atrocities.

If the authorities concerned can manage to arrest whom they call militants in the region, they can surely accelerate efforts to track down the unknown attackers. They need to act fast.
