Work hard or opt out, warns health minister

The minister ordered a strict policy for referring the patients from one hospital to another

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Health Khawaja Imran Nazir said inefficient staff has no space in the department. He said people who want to get a salary sitting at home should get another job.

He said that no gynaecologist would get special the pay of Rs60,000 without doing his or her job.

The minister ordered a strict policy for referring the patients from one hospital to another. He stressed that the practice would only be acceptable in very special cases. Nazir added that in the event a patient is referred, documentation must be completed.

‘Hospitals not being privatised in South Punjab’

He said medical superintendents should ensure the shifting of patients or pregnant women only through the ambulance of patient referral service of Rescue 1122.

The minister issued this statement while addressing the monthly conference of medical superintendents of DHQ/THQ hospitals at a local hotel on Saturday.

The meeting reviewed the performance of all hospitals and assessment of health indicators was also carried out.
