ISLAMABAD: Officials of the apex anti-graft organisation have been given a warning about misusing their powers or in indulging in corruption.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice Javed Iqbal has advised officers to refrain from indulging in corruption as the corrupt had no place in the bureau.

Addressing a meeting held here to review the performance of the Secretariat chairman, Justice Iqbal said that necessary action would be taken against officials who were found violating laws.

Despite initiating the accountability process within NAB, he said that action had yet to be taken effectively against corrupt officers and officials who had inflicted severe loss to NAB.

The chairman asked the concerned officials why no legal action was taken on the inquiries and investigations pending against various offices on the basis of complaints filed over the past 17 years. He directed that all possible steps should be taken to improve NAB’s reputation.

“No one is above the law. The law stops us from misusing powers,” he added.

Directing officers and officials to work with due diligence, honesty, dedication and transparently on merit, the NAB chief warned that he would not allow any official to ignore rules of merit, transparency, honesty, and hard work in discharging their duties.

He further warned that he would not take even a moment to act against corrupt elements in NAB to punish them according to law. He further directed officials to conduct internal as well as external audits of the anti-graft body to ensure fair usage of funds and resources.
