GILGIT: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Gilgit-Baltistan chapter was working on 11 investigations cases, 14 inquiries and seven verifications, top official of the bureau in the region said.

NAB Director General Nasir Jamil said owing to the efforts of the anti-graft body five accused were sentenced in Big Board Advisory Service corruption case, while property of an accused worth Rs20 million was also seized.

Jamil, while talking to the media, said the bureau was taking swift actions against corruption on the basis of solid evidences and bringing corrupt elements under clutches of law without caring of their financial position, relations and socio-economic status in the society.

The DG NAB said investigation on different cases in the departments of PWD, education, forests and agriculture were underway and 30 new cases were registered since March 2016 till to date. He said NAB was taking swift action against corruption cases and was fully active in G-B.

Jamil said that G-B was a small area regarding financial scams, however, approval from NAB regional office was necessary even in small corruption cases.

“The G-B government was fully supporting NAB and we have no complaint from it,” he said. He said the newly appointed Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal was expected to further strengthen NAB.
