KARACHI: Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi stated on Saturday that he is keen to return to Test cricket.

Afridi had earlier announced that he was taking a temporary break from it to concentrate more on the short forms of the game.

He said he wanted to play all forms of cricket rather than restricting himself and that he was ready to make a comeback to Test cricket and hoped former Test cricketers and his fans would support his decision.

Pakistan is scheduled to play two Test matches against Australia, and four against England.

The England tour will begin on June 28, with PCB announcing the captain on June 25.

Sources said the cricketing board is looking to select one captain for all three forms of the game.

To retire or not to retire, Afridi is clearly confused about this decision. In my opinion he should make himself available and should be part of the test team. As the team not only needs specialists in the bowling and batting department but also needs experienced and quality alrounders such as Razzaq and Afridi. Allrounders are a key component of a team therefore Afridi needs to be in it, as if not for his batting but at least his attacking bowling will be a very big advantage for the team.

Also his statistics in this form of the game are not bad at all, as he has a decent batting avg of 37, and lately he has shown a bit of maturity in the batting dept excluding the recently concluded T20 WC.

Finally the team needs experience at this time especially in the longer form of the game such as test matches. As youngsters maybe talented however at key moments in tests it is experience and quality that can win games. Pakistan also need Yousuf and Younis urgently back to bolster the batting line-up, without them Pakistan will surely crumble and will not survive in the test arena.Recommend

i support what Afridi said, he is a good all rounder, and can be a very dangerous for Longer versions of Cricket. Also Pakistan needs some experience players for this version of cricket, as Muhammad Yousuf has announced the retirement, Younis Khan is facing ban, Shoaib Malik is also not there so Pakistan needs a mature senior player in the team to hold and lead the team in a good manner. And m 100% sure Afridi can do this.Recommend

Why make him the captain?? He made the stupid mistake of giving ajmal the last over instead of Aamir or Razzak in T20, which cost us the semisss!!!Recommend

Afridi’s test batting avg is 37 as compare to his 23 score per innings in 275 inn (293 ODI Matches). He should play only test cricket & retired from ODI to improve his test batting/avg.
On my personal point of view Afridi should only play T20 & Test.
ODI are just a disaster for him, over 15 year career, about 300 ODIs and only 23 per innings Avg….

Giving Ajmal the last over wasnt a mistake. it happens. razzaq would probably have been clobbered all over as well. im sure the option of becoming a Test Captain of Pakiostanw as enough to pursuade him out of retirement. i suppose he is the best option we have givne the lack of contenders.Recommend
