PM Abbasi wants CADD, CDA to devise health plan

ISLAMABAD: To improve health facilities in the capital, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Monday told the top administrators of the city to put their heads together and chalk out a plan to resolve all health-sector related issues.

Abbasi chaired separate meetings about the capital on Monday where he directed the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA), the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) mutually devise a plan for providing quality health and other civic facilities in the urban, as well as the rural areas, of the capital.

In a briefing on CDA, the prime minister was told that construction work on a signal-free and controlled access corridor on the Islamabad Highway - from Zero Point to GT Road, Koral Interchange was in progress. Moreover, a bridge was being built at the Sohan and Khanna Interchange. The Gulberg Underpass and Naval Bridge were some of the major projects which the CDA was currently working on.

Recently completed projects include dualization of the Service Road (East) in Sector E-11, infrastructure development of Park Enclave (Phase-I), multi-purpose car parking facilitation centre in Sector G-7, Sports Club in Sector F-6, a mosque in Rawal Town, Faqir Aipee Road in Sector I-11 and dualization of Service Road (East) from Sector G-10 to Sector F-10.

Other on-going projects include dualization of the Attaturk Road West, improvement of Serena Chowk, re-surfacing of various roads in the capital, construction of Secretariat mosque and rehabilitation of Service Road (West) in Sector G-11.

Future projects mega projects, which the CDA had identified for the for the capital include the rehabilitation of the Simly Dam Road, Bhara Kahu Bypass, construction of an interchange at the Intersection of Kashmir Highway and Seventh Avenue, construction of an additional block at the 300-bed Capital Hospital in Sector G-6, a slaughterhouse in Sector I-9/4, a state-of-the-art intercity bus terminal, construction of medical centres,  Islamabad Bus Service Project and proposed solutions for solid waste management.

Various issues relating to the strengthening of the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation, service delivery especially in the rural areas of the capital, and the issue of encroachment on state land were also discussed during the meeting. Earlier, Abbasi also chaired a meeting on health-related issues in the capital. The meeting was also attended by Federal Minister for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar.
