Peoples’ bus service

The Sindh government plans to launch another project for provision of improved public transport

LARKANA: The Sindh government plans to launch another project for provision of improved public transport. With the Green Line bus service project still incomplete and non-functional, along with several others already under way the Sindh government has now announced the Peoples Bus Service project.

The project is supposed to have over 600 buses moving across the city but does not say how the government plans to deal with over hundreds of mini-buses already on the roads. Moreover, with cheap transport being the preference of commuters, how cheaper and better the said service will be compared to the already existing ones? Assuming that the Peoples’ bus service project will be followed by the start of the Green Line bus service, another issue is of the degraded infrastructure and broken down roads. As now a sizeable majority commutes through private transport offering economical yet travel, the government should check upon the feasibility of launching such a venture. Logically, the government should either merge all the bus services that are already in existence as one or cancel others to reallocate resources and capital into one.
