Security guard’s suicide

Letter October 17, 2017
It seems that Pakistan was made for the rich and famous only

KARACHI: It was heart wrenching to read recently that a private security guard committed suicide in Rawalpindi by hanging himself from a rope tied to the ceiling of the house where he was employed. The guard was sixty years old.  I would like to draw the attention of the authorities concerned to this grave issue, as poor security guards are paid a meagre amount from Rs10,000 to Rs15,000 per month without any remuneration, working meals, etc. They have to feed themselves and their families on this inadequate salary. The relevant authorities must reach out to them and lawmakers must strive to better their living conditions. The incident is a testament to the worsening condition of private security firms. There’s so much that our leaders have yet to do to eliminate hunger from the nation. Let’s accept the fact that we are living in a dystopia. It seems that Pakistan was made for the rich and famous only.
