They may be a non-violent group, but they are opposed to the democratic process.
LAHORE: Pakistan has sacrificed a lot to establish and strengthen democracy. The democratic process had been badly disrupted by the previous military dictatorship which deteriorated institutional developments across the country. The appearance of Hizbut Tahrir at a protest on April 17 as reported in your newspaper in an article titled “Banned outfit holds another rally amid police deployment” signifies a continued threat to Pakistani politics.
We must all condemn the call from Hizbut Tahrir to set up a new system in the country which can potentially halt the democratic culture in this country. They may be a non-violent group, but they are opposed to the democratic process and they promote a sense of deep victimisation among Muslims, instead of pride. If anything, we need stability, democratic governance and less disruption, as the enemies of Pakistan are those who attempt to disrupt the country’s peace and stability.
