Protests over FATA reforms

Letter October 12, 2017
Therefore, the PML-N should implement the reforms at the earliest to escape another political standoff

LAHORE: Delay in putting Fata reforms in place has irked political parties and Pashtun political factions, as being unjust and unfair to the people of the tribal areas. To see the demonstrations only as a struggle for the due rights of the Fata people would be a naïve approach towards the matter. As Fata is to merge with K-P, political parties are eyeing the political future of the territory, which when merged will give the chosen party jurisdiction and the rule over it. Fata reforms and abolishing the FCR is likely to kick-start an era of region’s development in cohesion with the rest of the country, although the agenda and its essence are being manipulated by many political parties and groups for political point scoring.

Therefore, the PML-N should implement the reforms at the earliest to escape another political standoff.
