Ethanol: Brazil to help develop industry

ISLAMABAD: Brazil is considering helping Pakistan produce ethanol from sugarcane, which will bring stability in petroleum product prices and reduce dependency on petrol, according to Brazilian Ambassador Alfredo Leoni.

Leoni, in a meeting with the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairman Salim Saifullah Khan, said Pakistan had huge potential in agriculture but failed to adopt modern techniques in the sector.

He underlined that Brazil produced huge amount of ethanol from sugarcane, which helped decrease dependency on petroleum products, adding that Pakistan and Brazil produced roughly the same amount of sugarcane.

Leoni explained that millions of vehicles in Brazil ran on ethanol, which was also used in industries and factories.
