Islamia University: Distance Education institute established

Institute to facilitate students who intend to pursue higher education but cannot visit the campus.

BAHAWALPUR: The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) has established an Institute of Distance Education to facilitate students who intend to pursue higher education but cannot visit the campus.

IUB spokesman Shahzad Ahmad said on Tuesday that in the first phase they were offering MPhil in Education. He said 35 students have been admitted in the first batch. Earlier, the university conducted a workshop on April 17 to brief students about the programme. Institute of Distance Education founding director Prof Dr Muhammad Aslam Adeeb said that every Sunday, between 11am and 1pm teachers would be available online to guide the students. The professor said that by September 2011, IUB would enroll at least 2,000 students for Mphil programmes in Applied Psychology, Economic, Education, Educational Training, English, International Relations, Islamic Studies, Library Science, Media Studies, Physical Education, Political Science, Social Work and Urdu and Iqbaliat.
