ADB to finance majority portion in Peshawar BRT

450 state-of-the-art air conditioned buses will serve commuters under the project'

PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to Chief Minister for Transport Malik Shah Muhammad Wazir said on Monday that the Asian Development Bank (ADP) will provide Rs42.5 billion to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government for construction of the much-awaited Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, commonly known as Metro Bus in Peshawar.

The CM’s special assistant told APP that ‘paper work’ for the mega project has been completed and construction will commence this month. “Completion of BRT before June 2018 is a big challenge for K-P and all efforts would be made to complete it before the end of the current government’s tenure,” he said.

He said out of a total cost of Rs50 billion, ADB will provide Rs42.5 billion while the rest will be injected by the provincial government. “450 state-of-the-art air conditioned buses will serve commuters under the project.”
