LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is in the process of finalising names of senior officers who are likely to depart for London and Dubai in the next week to obtain evidence of offshore assets of the Sharif family, The Express Tribune learnt on Monday.

NAB to step up probe into KASB-BankIslami merger

Information gathered in Volume X of the Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Report, sources revealed, has provided crucial information about the ruling family’s assets. At the moment, four graft cases were being investigated; two each in Lahore and Rawalpindi.

A three-to-four-member team of investigators will visit foreign lands to collect crucial evidence under the mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT) signed by Pakistan. Though it is not yet finalised, the team is empowered to approach the International Police Organisation, commonly known as Interpol, for the arrest of proclaimed offenders of the Sharif family.

Sources indicated that NAB had written several letters to governments of United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, seeking important documents on offshore assets of the ruling family.

Much of the paperwork has already been received. Now the bureau is trying to obtain other necessary information from foreign institutions as required for transparent investigations, the source maintained.
