Missing persons

Letter October 08, 2017
Said issue is one major reason for internal instability

QUETTA: Forced disappearances and the issue of missing persons over the past two decades have fanned racial profiling of certain ethnicities in the country.

During the past decade, in the cases of missing Baloch activists, despite causing public outcry and reaching courts to make up for the formality of court hearings, no substantial measures were taken for a political solution of the matter.

While Baloch activists disappeared due to their nationalist affiliations, a sectarian minority is facing the same for ethnic and sectarian implications.

The said issue is one major reason for internal instability. Yet with the exception of a few cases, the government and the law-enforcement agencies have failed to address the concerns of the victims’ families.

The victims or their families are not allegedly given the right to pursue the case legally through the judiciary for varying reasons and are left in a state of disappointment.
