PPP chairperson says education is the only weapon to defeat the evils spread by ignorance and illiteracy

KARACHI: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Saturday that he wanted every child in the country going to school.

“Education is the only weapon to defeat the evils spread by ignorance and illiteracy,” Bilawal said while presiding over a meeting in Karachi to review the Sindh government's efforts for the development of the education and literacy sector.

The meeting was attended by CM Syed Murad Ali Shah, Education Minister Jam Mehtab Dehar and Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) Managing Director Naheed S Durrani among others.

The CM's team briefed the PPP chairman about the the Sindh government's steps in the education sector.

Bilawal said education had always been a top priority in the party's manifesto. He urged the Sindh government to play a more proactive role in achieving the goals.

He pointed out that the World Bank had appreciated the smart solutions adopted by the Sindh government for education sector.

The World Bank has highlighted in a report that the the Sindh School Monitoring System spreads across 15 districts and to the remotest parts of the province. Plans are under way to expand it to the entire province. It is the first digital system in the education sector in Pakistan that allows transparent and effective monitoring of staff, students and school infrastructure. More than 210,000 teaching and non-teaching staff have been profiled using biometric information, covering more than 26,200 schools.
