Drug abuse

Drug abuse is among the most alarming and lethal issues affecting the youth today

KARACHI: Drug abuse is among the most alarming and lethal issues affecting the youth today. Accessibility to commonly consumed drugs like hash and weed is way easier now. According to a report by the UN, drug abuse costs around 685 lives globally in a year compared to 39 lost to terrorist acts. The report also mentions Afghanistan as not only being the major producer of drugs in the region but also states how most of the produce is illegally transported to Pakistan due to the long and somewhat unguarded border the two share.

More than anything else, drug abuse ruins the future of the youth, who mostly in the absence of psychological assistance and counselling seek solace from distress and societal problems through drugs. Alongside tackling the easy availability of drugs, awareness about counselling and rehabilitation is equally important, as practicing one without the other will be completely useless and ineffective.
