Mirpurkhas BISE official’s car comes under fire

Board’s staff demand arrest of perpetrators, security for officials

HYDERABAD: The car of an official of theMirpurkhas Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) came under fire on Wednesday midnight. However, controller of examinations Abdul Aleem Khanzada’s driver was alone in the vehicle and survived the attack unscathed.
SSP Kamran Nawaz Panjuta told the local media that two bullets were fired at the vehicle on Pir Aftab Shah Jeelani Road. According to the SSP, two armed motorcyclists fired at the car and escaped. He said that the driver, who was sent alone in the car to buy tea from a hotel, could not identify the assailants as it was dark. Both the bullets hit the Suzuki Cultus car on the left side. One struck the front door just above the door handle and the second in almost the middle of the rear door.



Khanzada said his driver informed him over the phone about the attack. "The shock left him speechless when we reached the spot after a few minutes of his call."
The attack bore hallmarks of targeted killing which until recently had traumatised Karachi, claim police. The incident's FIR has not been lodged so far as the police have failed to trace the assailants and Khanzada has not implicated anyone in the case.

 Talking to the media at his residence in Mirpurkhas, Khanzada believed that the attack could be a reaction to the recent actions against political appointments and illegal promotions in the board. "I have been getting life threats for some time," he claimed, without identifying who had threatened him. He added that on the court orders and under disciplinary action, many employees were dismissed or demoted to lower grades. Khanzada said he would lodge the incident's FIR.
According to him, Mirpurkhas BISE Chairperson Barkat Haider Rizvi has already written to the provincial government to provide security to the board's top officials in the wake of the dismissals. On Thursday, the staff of the board also held a demonstration demanding the arrest of perpetrators and security for the officials.
