QUETTA: Iranian troops fired at least 11 mortar shells into a town in Panjgur district in Balochistan in a new act of border violation on Wednesday.

Islamabad strongly protested at the diplomatic level against the aggression and continued border violation by shelling into its territory.

“The shells landed in an open area of border town Chedgi in District Panjgur without causing any casualty but the loud bangs caused fear among the people living in border towns,” Panjgur Deputy Commissioner Jabbar Baloch said.

The border violation issue would be raised in the upcoming flag meeting between Pakistan and Iranian border guards, which was due after two days, he added.

Iran occasionally fires mortar shells into bordering areas in what officials term clear border violations. However, on the other side, Tehran has categorically said it would chase down smugglers and terrorists causing disturbance in Iran.
