PTI's former Punjab president quits party saying he's not 'rich enough'

Farooq Amjad Meer says he hasn't been able to meet party chief for the last two years despite repeated attempts

LAHORE: Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Punjab president Farooq Amjad Meer announced on Tuesday that he had left the party.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Meer said he was unhappy over the party's politics.

“Despite repeated attempts, I failed to get even a single appointment to meet the party chairman [Imran Khan] in the last two years," he said.



"I don’t have that many resource, like others in the party, to finance the political agenda of the PTI. I have resigned from the party and decided to establish a think-tank that will work on building a positive image of the country,” he added.

“Right now, everyone is talking about individuals, but nobody speaking about Pakistan."

Meer maintained that he had not considered joining any other political party so far.

Before the PTI, Meer was associated with the Pakistan Muslim League Quaid. He is a lawyer by profession and has served as a member of the National Assembly and a law, justice and human rights parliamentary secretary.
