LAHORE: In order to make the recently introduced 111 intelligence system as effective as possible, Lahore police held a meeting of the in-charges of all branches, including operations, investigations, security and traffic.

It was chaired by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains at the Alhamra Hall on Monday. The aim of the meeting was to inform the in-charges about their roles in the functioning of the 111 intelligence system and make it successful.

Brains and brawn of digital police stations ignored

DIG Investigations Sultan Chaudhry and SSP Admin Rana Ayyaz Salim were also present on the occasion.

Speaking to the participants, Wains said terrorists could not be defeated until the police and public were on the same page. “It is the prime responsibility of the police to get information about crime to eradicate it,” he added. He stated it was mandatory for police officers to send information about terrorists, facilitators, land grabbers, possessors of illegal weapons, drug peddlers, proclaimed offenders, smugglers, gamblers or any other suspicious activity through SMS on 03037712111.

The name of the sender of the information will be kept confidential, Wains assured. “Upon receiving information, the intelligence branch at the CCPO office would start its work.” He added that his office would cooperate fully to make this intelligence-based system a success.

CCPO in pole position to take over as police chief

The CCPO said that they had been successful in peacefully organising the World-XI cricket tournament and NA-120 by-elections, while ensuring that Eidul Fitr and Ashura concluded peacefully. He said that if the public and police stayed vigilant, terrorists could not harm people for generations.

SSP Rana Ayyaz Salim said the purpose of inviting the in charges of all branches to the meeting was to discuss the importance of this intelligence system and form a procedure to share information on the system.

“Over 35,000 policemen were serving Lahore police and if every official shared one piece of information a month, the system received 35,000 reports on law and order,” he said. This would definitely improve the situation in the city,” he added.

The software 111 intelligence system is an initiative of CCPO Amin Wains to build a separate intelligence wing of Lahore Police. According to the system, every police official/officer is asked to share one piece of information about crime and criminals every month. An app was also devised for the purpose and a centralised control room was also established at the CCPO office to streamline the information and turn it into actionable intelligence.
