Office of Islamia College professor burnt in Peshawar

Students at the university staged a protest and called for action against the suspects involved

PESHAWAR: An office of the chairman of the Physics Department at the Islamia College in Peshawar burnt down on Wednesday, with officials and eyewitnesses suspecting that it was a case of arson.

Students at the university also staged a protest against the varsity administration and called for action against the suspects involved.

An official of the Islamia College, who was an eyewitness to the incident, stated on the condition of anonymity that a lecturer in the department called Manzor Shah had allegedly set fire to the office of Professor Dr Naeem Khalid.



He dilated that on Wednesday afternoon, Shah went to the office of Dr Khalid. However, the department chairman - who is on leave for two months - was not in his office.

Shah then allegedly set fire to the main door of the cubicle. As a result, the fire destroyed the door and a computer in the office.

He clarified that no student records or other important documents were burnt since the office had only recently been built and that no student records or other important documents were kept there.

The eyewitness added that the chairman and the lecturer had an old enmity and that the chairman had also submitted written complaints against the lecturer.
