PESHAWAR: Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday inaugurated phase one of Ghallanai-Mohmand Gat Road including 751m Nahakki Tunnel in Mohmand Agency of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

Speaking on the occasion, the army chief said country has witnessed peace and stability in the recent years and it is also getting rid of militancy and terrorism due to support of the tribesmen.

“Development projects are the actual prong toward achieving peace and stability in the war torn parts of Fata and adjacent areas, and we are investing in Fata for brighter future of the country,” he said.

He said the project once completed will pave way for inter-agencies travelling and will also be potential way for trade with Afghanistan through Nawa Pass. He also appreciated efforts of engineers and workers for the project completion.

Earlier, the army chief was briefed about 41km project, whose first phase, comprising 14 km road, has been completed while work on remaining portion is in progress. Nahakki Tunnel connects the border areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan

The project is being undertaken by the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO). The K-P Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Peshawar corps commander and the FWO director general were present at the inauguration.
