LAHORE: A newly married couple, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a house in Raiwind on Monday night, actually committed suicide, police claimed.

According to officials, deceased Muhammad Basharat, 23, a resident of Barki, tied the knot with Amna, 21, about four months ago.

It is believed that Amna had come to stay with at her parents’ house some days ago after going through some domestic issues. She also invited her husband over to her parents’ house.

The couple had dinner and after some time Basharat’s condition deteriorated. He was shifted to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. Meanwhile, Amna’s condition also started to worsen. She was also shifted to the hospital but could not survive.

Basharat’s father Muhammad Arif complained to police that his son was poisoned to death by her in-laws. However, he could not explain the reason behind the killing.

Police started investigations and confirmed that the couple had committed suicide.

After Amna’s death, Basharat’s family also withdrew their application.

City Raiwind SHO Rana Arham told The Express Tribune that the case was closed after legal formalities, under section 174 of the CrPC, were completed.

The SHO said that the couple had committed suicide by swallowing poisonous pills. He added that they could not determine the reason for the couple to take their own lives. “We could find out had one of them survived,” the SHO stated.
