HYDERABAD:

Kings XI Punjab openers put the Deccan Chargers bowlers to the sword as they completed a convincing eight-wicket win.

Adam Gilchrist (61) and Paul Valthaty put on 136 for the first wicket, making mockery of a seemingly competitive target of 166. Valthaty top-scored with 75.

Earlier, Deccan recovered from a shaky start thanks to a solid contribution from top-scorer Shikhar Dhawan who hit 45.

Chennai victorious

AB de Villiers’ brave knock was not enough to save Royal Challengers Bangalore from defeat, as the visitors went down by 21 runs against Chennai Super Kings.

De Villiers scored 64 with the help of five boundaries but the brittle start to the innings ensured that Bangalore were always under pressure chasing 184. The Chennai bowlers kept chipping away with regular wickets which ensured a comfortable victory.

Earlier, Chennai got off to a blinder thanks to Michael Hussey’s brilliant 56-ball 83 that laid the foundation for the victory. His innings was laced with eleven hits to the fence as the Australian smacked the bowlers to all parts of the park.
