Calligraphy institute for capital soon

The NH&LH Division submits a summary to the prime minister for setting up the National Institute of Calligraphy

ISLAMABAD: The National History and Literary Heritage (NH&LH) Division has submitted a summary to the prime minister for setting up the first-ever National Institute of Calligraphy in the capital the Prime Minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for approval. This was disclosed by Prime Minister’s Advisor on National Heritage Irfan Siddiqui while talking to the media. “The establishment of a calligraphy institute will not only serve as a catalyst to preserve and promote this ancient art but play a pivotal role in resolving the issues being faced by calligraphers, besides providing patronage and recognition to their work,” Siddiqui said. Siddiqui added that calligraphy has a prestigious and distinct place in Islamic arts. He said the art of calligraphy has evolved into various forms over the past 14 centuries. “This art has been flourishing in the Islamic world without proper acknowledgement,” he added. He said that the art of calligraphy and calligraphers have been deprived of any recognition and patronage at the government level.
