While counting for the NA-120 by-election is still under way on Sunday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Dr Yasmin Rashid said she was grateful to the military and the media for the role they played in ensuring a peaceful election.

"This isn't a Pakistan and India war," she told reporters in Lahore after polling ended.

"I am thankful to the media and military for the role they played. The presence of the army ensured that voters were able to cast their votes peacefully and without any worries."

Yasmin said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz activists used to barge inside polling stations during previous elections but that was not the case this time around.

She added that even if she won the by-election, she would still ask the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to probe into 29,000 "bogus" votes that had been cast in the NA-120-by poll.

"We want the elections to be held in a fair and transparent manner. Rigged elections only weaken democracy," she remarked.
