Dr Asim Hussain, a close confidant of PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, has said he will go back to Pakistan to defend himself in a slew of allegations against him in the court of law.

Dr Asim, who is facing cases of corruption and terror facilitation, flew to London after the Supreme Court allowed him to go abroad for medical treatment for a month but with the condition that he would return to join the cases he was facing.

“Pakistan is my country. And I’ll go back come what may,” Dr Asim said while speaking to BBC in London. “I’ll defend myself in court in all the cases.”

He believes that the PML-N government has implicated him in fabricated case to settle an old score with the PPP. “Though I’ve reservations about the cases against me, I’m hopeful that I will emerge victorious in all concocted cases,” he said.

While responding to a question, Dr Asim said he had to suffer financial losses after joining politics, let alone making money.

Dr Asim is not completely satisfied with the performance of PPP’s government in Sindh, but he said the challenges faced by the province were more difficult and complicated as compared to those in other provinces. “Punjab gets much more funds from the Centre than other provinces,” he claimed.

The PPP leader said that continuity of the democratic system would strengthen democracy in the country. He added that the people of Sindh voted for the PPP in every election because they were happy with its performance.

Asked about his political future, Dr Asim said his interest in Pakistan’s politics had dwindled.
