HARIPUR: A local leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was shot dead over an old enmity in Kalas locality.

Dhenda Tehsil Council Member Malik Haq Nawaz was assassinated in a mafia style shooting near his home. According to eyewitnesses, Haq Nawaz was buying groceries from a roadside stall when a car stopped and four men alighted, lined up, and opened fire with automatic weapons.

Nawaz went down in a hail of bullets and was dead before he hit the ground. A bystander and his son were also injured in the injured. Thana Khulla Butt Township police and rescue workers shifted the body and injured to Haripur Women and Children Hospital where one of the injured was in critical condition.

Two killed over old enmity

The body was handed over to the family after legal formalities. The victim’s family have nominated Amir, Khurram, Hanif and Abid as accused in the murder case. Police have also ensured arrest within two days. The news of murder shook the closely knit local community with condolences and condemnations pouring in from all quarters.
