‘Universities must be govt accredited’     

Universities pivotal in bringing higher education sector of country at par with global standard, said HED secretary

LAHORE: Private sector universities have been told to comply with both federal and provincial statutes for accreditation of their programmes and disciplines.

The direction was given during a meeting with the heads of private universities of Punjab by officials of the Higher Education Department (HED) and Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC). HED Secretary Nabeel A Awan chaired the meeting held at the Government College University (GCU), Lahore on Thursday. Nabeel A Awan, while addressing the meeting, said that private universities were pivotal in bringing the higher education sector of the country at par with global standards.

“HED, in collaboration with PHEC, is working arduously to facilitate private sector universities of the province,” Awan added. Dr Zafar Iqbal Qureshi said that the issues of the private universities were being addressed in the light of accreditation.
