Hazaras target killing

Letter September 14, 2017
These is no doubt that this is a result of the long and protracted tussle involving adherents of the two major sects

QUETTA: The targeted killings of members of the Hazara community are no different from any other incidents of ethnic cleansing. Over the past decade and a half, the religiously motivated killings of Hazara have gone on unabated. According to a report, 1,400 incidents of violence have taken place against the community in the past 15 years.

These is no doubt that this is a result of the long and protracted tussle involving adherents of the two major sects. The objective, it seems, is to fuel sectarian violence and instability through militant outlets in the region who are vying for supremacy over one another. The Hazara community members await justice and the prosecution of those responsible for these dastardly attacks. It is undeniably a failure on the part of the government that despite massive protests against the provincial government of Balochistan and the sacking of former chief minister Nawab Aslam Raisani following a suicide bomb attack in 2013 that killed over 80 Hazaras no concrete action has been taken to provide security to the vulnerable community. Officials should tighten security measures and the deployment of security forces around their places of worship and other areas where they congregate for religious, social, cultural, and economic activities.
