KARACHI: During a police encounter with kidnappers in the port city, at least two accomplices of the latter were killed, said police.

The exchange of fire between the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) police and the kidnappers took place in an area near Bin Qasim Town early on Tuesday.

According to details, inspector Ayub Pathan of the AVCC conducted the raid after receiving a tip from an arrested offender, Abdul Malik alias Haji, with the aim to recover the vehicle of an abductee and arrest the absconders.

When the kidnappers retaliated, the AVCC police also returned fire in self-defence, as a result, an accomplice of the kidnappers, who was later identified as Haider Ali alias Rajo alias Bablo, was killed on the spot.

Police said the accomplice was involved in the killing of a police constable in 2015. Constable Adil Nawaz embraced martyrdom while another constable Sadaqat Hussain was injured during an encounter with him. A first information report (FIR) of the incident was registered later at the Police Station B Site Area District West Karachi.

During today’s fire exchange, Abdul Malik was also injured and later succumbed to his injuries while on his way to a hospital.

Meanwhile, taking advantage of the darkness, three of the accused escaped. The vehicle of the abductee along with TT pistols and rounds were recovered from the spot.
