Revamping public libraries

KARACHI: It is edifying that the Sindh government has announced plans for a public library at the Anti-terrorism Court building once the courts are moved to Central Jail, Karachi.

However, more important is the need for necessary funding and measures to keep public libraries functioning — unlike the many others already present in the Old City area of the metropolis, which now appear to be defunct heritage sites. There is also a dire need for a system upgrade and provision of modern facilities in public libraries which are technologically outdated and dysfunctional.
