Iranian authorities handed more than 20 Pakistani immigrants to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) at Taftan border in Balochistan's Chagai district, Radio Pakistan reported on Sunday.

Pakistanis living in Iran illegally or trying to enter the territory without proper travel documents are caught every year by the Iranian security forces.

Iran, as per a senior official of FIA, has been deporting some 20,000 to 26,000 illegal Pakistani immigrants every year. Most of them were intending to reach Europe via Iran, Turkey and Greek, with the help of human smugglers.
Islamabad and Tehran share a 900-kilometre-long porous border. Both the two countries had decided in 2014 to boost intelligence coordination to wipe out terrorists from the border region.
The Pakistan Gate at Taftan in Chagai district was completed in 2016.
