Western militants still flocking to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD:

A steady, modest flow of Western militants plotting to launch bomb attacks abroad continue to trickle into Pakistan’s lawless northwest for training, Pakistani and Western officials say.

As Pakistani authorities detain two Frenchmen picked up in Lahore on suspicion of links with the mastermind of the 2002 Bali bombings, diplomats say many more suspects are holed up in Taliban and al Qaeda enclaves.

Bombings in Madrid in 2004 and London in 2005, a foiled plot in Barcelona and the Mumbai siege in 2008, as well as the botched plot in New York’s Times Square in May last year, all led back to Pakistan’s militant heartland.

Al Qaeda receives logistical support from the Pakistani Taliban who have trained up hundreds of suicide bombers responsible for the majority of the 4,200 people killed in attacks across Pakistan in the past four years.

Diplomats say the most difficult foreigners to track down are British and Americans of Pakistani origin, as they arrive with legitimate visas and blend in with the local population as they make their way to the Waziristan region.

“There are some basic flaws in our immigration system. It’s very easy for these suspects to pass through,” another senior security official said.

The French who come are mostly of North African origin and number “twenty or thirty” in camps along the Afghan-Pakistan border, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Five German militants were killed in October last year by a US drone strike.

Most militants arrive with a working knowledge of Pashto and wear local dress, making them difficult to identify, an intelligence official said.

Pakistan might be the biggest or second biggest" so called " Islamic Republic but there are more and more muslims living in India under world's largest democracy. Pakistan's record on Human Right is zero upon Zero, where Tailiban who call themself as staunch muslims and believe rest of the pakistani population are not muslim and annihilating them in a systematic manner. So much so, Shia and other minorities like Christian, Ahmadis have no footings in the so-called Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Of course, India is one of the second world's largest country with huge population minor incidents of ethnic nature do occur there but that doesn't mean that Indian muslims are escaping other parts of the world like saner Pakistani elements escaping European and other countries in search of shelter. I pity with them and with Pakistani government that has granted license of kill Shia and other minorities in Pakistan. Dear Mr.LUA being desperate with situation, Taliban are no longer sparing Sunni and Barelvi majority in pakistan that can be vindicated from the fact that shrines of noted sufi saints like Data Sahab in Lahore, Abdullah Bokhari in Karachi, Sakhi Sarwar in Punjab, Barri Imam in Islamabad were also not spared by the Hardcore Taliban group who want to establish there own order in the country. What will happen to other innocent pakistanis if Taliban come into power. Your nuclear facilities are also not in safe hands Mr. LUA. Better stop mudslinging on others and bring your own house in order which is in mess after the death of founder of that nation who was a man of secular vision. Unfortunately, after the death of your founder, the country went in the hands of theocrats who refurbished business by establishing thousands of maddersas where young generation is being brought up as "Terrorists". Don't you what is happening in Muridke where Lashkar-e-Taiba have established Terrorists Camps, don't you know what is going on in North Waziristan where army appears to be helpless and surrendered to terrorists.
