‘Millions embezzled in dog culling drive’

MPA says receipts were being issued to cover the theft

LAHORE: Deputy Opposition leader Muhammad Sibtain Khan submitted an adjournment motion in the Punjab Assembly, alleging that corruption worth millions took place during the drive to cull stray dogs.



He said the staff of the Public Health Department claimed killing 300 dogs on a daily basis, but the information was fake and allotted funds were embezzled. He said according to the rules, empty bullet shells must be deposited to officers concerned, but in this case none of the regulations were followed. The MPA added receipts were prepared merely to embezzle the funds.

He said no proper procedure for awarding tenders was adopted and medicines were purchased from the favoured sellers. He added this was taking place despite the fact that people maintained strong reservations. Khan demanded strict action against those responsible for preparing forged receipts.



Meanwhile, the treasury benches submitted a resolution demanding that lessons on the sanctity of vote and the Constitution of Pakistan be added to school syllabi. The demand was made by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz legislator Hina Pervez Butt through a resolution in which she stated that the need of the hour was to make people aware about the sanctity of vote and the Constitution of Pakistan.

She said respect of the Constitution was mandatory for all citizens. “Similarly, respect of the vote is also mandatory,” the MPA said.
