OCAS was developed for the Higher Education Department (HED) of Punjab to process intermediate admission applications for their FA, FSC and ICS programmes. It processed almost one million applications over the past few years. The Edvisory: ensuring every ambitious student makes the cut

Free of cost availability of college broachers and online admission forms were an added feature of the system, while it considerably reduced the visits of students and parents to colleges, while ensuring timely compilation of applications and the merit list.

Online College Admission System (OCAS) provided a web-based facility for applicants to submit admissions online. It had been built to provide easy, convenient, efficient and reliable access to students for admissions in government colleges for higher education.

The solution was based on a collaborative relationship between the Punjab Higher Education Department, nine Boards of the Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) of Punjab, Bank of Punjab and Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).

The salient features of the system included 24/7 access, the ability to apply from any place with internet access, track admission application statuses via the college website, integration with BISE results, minimising data entry and reducing errors.
