Task force formed to clear rain water in District Central

Three-day drive aimed at clearing entire district in the aftermath of the recent heavy downpour is under way, says DC

KARACHI: A quick-action task force was formed in order to clear accumulated rain water, clearance of dirt and sludge as well as remnants of offals following Eidul Azha in District Central.
On the first working day following Eid holidays on Tuesday District Central Deputy Commissioner (DC) Fariduddin Mustafa said that a three-day drive aimed at clearing the entire district in the aftermath of the recent heavy downpour is under way.

District Central was the worst-hit district among all six districts of Karachi as the rain recorded in the area was higher compared to other parts of the metropolis.
In this exercise, all assistant commissioners are heading the teams constituted in their jurisdictions. "The exercise is meant to clear main roads, internal arteries as well as low lying areas that were badly hit by the torrential rains," said Mustafa.

All six underpasses of District Central, including Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Gharibabad, Sohrab Goth and Golimar had been cleared Monday evening. The Gulberg Chowrangi, Sakhi Hassan and KDA Chowrangi, where the rain water had accumulated, were also cleared by manual labour and light machinery.
According to the DC, a full-scale cleanliness drive was launched with a privately hired 250-men labour force besides 25 tractor blades, 20 dumper trucks on the first day of the campaign.

Sarfaraz Babar, a resident of Liaqatabad, told The Express Tribune that after a long time, a cleanliness campaign of this scale was observed. "Such activities, if made permanent, can bring a positive change in Karachi," he added.
Shershah Suri Road near Nagan Chowrangi, Ibne Seena Road around Liaquatabad, Khamiso Goth area, Water Pump area and Kashmiri Colony were cleared on the first day of the campaign.
