DRAP to conduct market inspection

Step is being taken to ensure provision of quality, safe, effective and affordable medicines to citizens

ISLAMABAD: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap), along with provinces and security agencies, will conduct market inspection throughout the country to check the sale of spurious, fake, counterfeit and substandard drugs.

According to a Drap official, the step is being taken to ensure provision of quality, safe, effective and affordable medicines to citizens through inspections and enforcing greater regulatory compliance. He said Drap teams would also provide guidance to the industry and pharmaceutical traders for improving the quality of manufacturing, distribution, sales and dispensing of therapeutic goods. Federal Board of Revenue, Federal Investigation Agency and other law enforcement agencies to improve coordination for effective and stringent enforcement of regulatory compliance and to remove various hurdles and challenges. He highlighted that the department would also ensure media engagement and coordinate with social reformers and consumer protection NGOs to mobilise them for public education.
