LAHORE:
The body of a student was recovered from Punjab University’s Old Campus hostel on Wednesday and it seemed that the young man had been dead for days. This was confirmed by the varsity’s administration.

The student was found dead in room number 168 of the Khalid Bin Waleed Hall in the Old Campus. The student, identified as Manzoor Jamshed Kamboh, was a student of MA Urdu Part 2 and belonged to Pakpattan. Both Manzoor and his sister studied at the Oriental College of the Punjab University.

According to the university spokesperson, the body was recovered from the hostel room after a few students informed the administration about a smell emitting from room 168 at around 10am on Wednesday morning. He said the guards, along with some students, opened the door of the room and found the body of Manzoor Jamshed Kamboh in the room.

However, the student was not a resident of the hostel room which was actually in the name of one Shahid. According to varsity sources, Shahid was not present in the hostel and Manzoor was alone in the room. Only a few students were residing in the hostels as they were closed due to summer holidays before the start of the new semester, officials said.

University sources said the room was unlocked when they reached the spot. At the same time, university sources termed Manzoor’s death a suicide and claimed that he took his own life after a failed “love affair” with a fellow student. Meanwhile, the police had taken the body to the morgue for an autopsy and the varsity administration had contacted the family of the deceased.
