Senate panel wants Homeopathy Council voter list scrutinised

NCH administrator says arrangements complete for holding elections on October 30

ISLAMABAD: A parliamentary panel has expressed suspicions over voter lists of the National Council for Homeopathy (NCH) and has called for a complete scrutiny of the lists for transparent elections of the council.

A subcommittee of Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services Regulations and Coordination in its meeting on Tuesday discussed the delays in council’s elections and errors in names and addresses of practitioners uploaded on to its website.

The NCH is a corporate body constituted under Unani, Ayurveda and Homeopathic Practitioners Act 1965 to regulate qualifications and to register homoeopathy practitioners.

The ministry had appointed an administrator of the council on April 28 to help hold elections after the previously elected council had completed its stipulated term.

The administrator, Shakeel Kayani, told the sub-committee the committee that arrangements to hold the elections by October 30 election have been completed.

Senator Kalsoom Parveen, the convener of the subcommittee, said that the identity card numbers and addresses of the voters must be mentioned and that there is nothing wrong if the elections are delayed to allow for completing the scrutiny of voters.

“Those who have objections over the voter lists should contact me,” she added.
