PFA issues notices to 12,000 shopkeepers in 10 months

MULTAN: At least 16,000 places were checked while notices were issued to 12,000 shopkeepers in Multan over adulteration charges and unhygienic conditions.

Besides, 153 food points were also sealed, a Punjab Food Authority (PFA) spokesperson said while issuing the 10-month performance report on Monday. He said 15 cases were registered against shop owners for selling spurious edibles. He added the objective of the PFA was to ensure provision of safe food to public.

While giving details, he maintained 90,000 places were checked across Punjab in the current year as compared to 20,000 during the first ten months of 2016. The official pointed out that 54,000 food outlets were issued reformatory notices and the implementation of these notices was ensured.



In addition, 2,000, food outlets were sealed over presence of unhygienic food, while Rs60 million fine was imposed on the shopkeepers. The spokesperson said that all the food outlets were reformed according to the rules of health safety.
